Documentation Needed To Rent A Car In Orlando

The requirements and documentation to rent a car in the United States depend on the company , so read the conditions of yours very well.

But, in general, they will all ask you:

  • Be over 21 years old. And not only that, but also, if you are under 25 years of age they usually charge you an extra supplement and they don't let you choose certain car models. So ideally the main driver is over 25 years old.
  • A valid driving license. It can be the one of your country, but it has to be in force.
  • The international driving license. To drive in some states of the United States, you will be required to have the International Driving Permit (IDP), the international driver's license. It is a booklet with the translation of your permit into several languages. You have to request it at the traffic offices in your country before traveling and it lasts for a year. We recommend that you take it off, since they could ask you for it both at the rental company and on the road.
  • A credit card. To rent a car in the United States, 99% of companies will ask you for a credit (not debit) card and will make a temporary charge for the rental deposit, which they will cancel at the end of the trip if everything is correct. In some cases, companies accept debit cards at the airport offices as long as you present your return ticket and they can make a temporary charge for the rental price + deposit. Check with your company.
  • A passport as a form of identification.

You'll be pleased to know that of Orlando's three airports, Orlando International Airport (MCO) is the closest airport to the city of Orlando (only 20 km away) and the incredible tourist attractions of the South. from Florida (32 km). It is also close to the Orange County Convention Center (20 km), downtown Orlando (20 km) and other places such as International Drive (20 km) etc.

The other two airports are:

  • Orlando Executive Airport (ORL): Although ORL Airport is only minutes from downtown Orlando, it is not served by commercial airlines as it is a public airport owned by of the GOAA and which is dedicated to general aviation.
  • Orlando Sanford Airport (SFB): It is 53 kilometers from Orlando International Airport and approximately 42 kilometers from Orlando. It is Orlando's secondary airport and is further away from downtown Orlando and popular destinations like Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando Resort and SeaWorld Orlando and other theme parks.

Orlando International Airport offers free wireless internet in all public places. All you have to do is select the Wifi network SSID “MCO Internet” provided by GOAA. While looking for WiFi, avoid other hotspots as they are NOT provided by the Air Authority at the Airport.

Wireless networking for phones and computers are also available from AT&T, Cingular, Sprint, T-mobile, and Verizon.

Note: If you have a device with a “personal hotspot”, it is possible that your “personal hotspot” point interferes with the Airport's free Wi-Fi connection. Be sure to turn it off if you are not using it. If your connection is weak on the SSID "MCO Internet", it may be due to the active devices of other passengers. So think about moving.

The Hyatt Regency is the closest hotel since it is located in the airport itself.

Location: It is located inside the East Hall, between Zone A and Zone B of the Terminal.

There are plenty of ways to kill time at MCO Airport. As mentioned earlier, MCO has plenty of places in the main terminal and the satellite terminals (Boarding areas) where you can shop and eat. Alternatively, you can stroll through the hotel's atrium – which sits between Area A and Area B of the Main Terminal – and sit there enjoying its “urban park” vibe.

The car park located at the top of the airport terminal is also a nice place to visit. The views it offers are breathtaking. If you are waiting for your flight at night, you can take a ride here and enjoy the nightly fireworks.
